Main Challenge
Many adolescents and young adults disclose their suicidality to providers who are not prepared to offer treatment and instead must refer to the ED when outpatient care is appropriate. This overwhelms medical systems and creates negative experiences for patients, their loved ones and providers.
Our Approach
Using the Discover, Design, Build and Test Framework and a Multiphase Optimization Strategy we’ll develop effective and scalable interventions. Together, SCRC’s 12 research projects will inform a full-spectrum suicide care model that can be implemented in part or in full, based on system needs.

RFA: $100,000 awards for Two Multiple PI Teams Interested in Suicide Care Research
SCRC’s Pilot Grants Program invites applications from Multiple PI teams for a 2-year R03-level award of $100,000 that will fund pilot or developmental research. In addition, funded investigators will receive dissemination funds for publications, conferences, etc. and be invited to join our Collaborating Scholars Program.
Awards are for projects that aim to develop, refine, and/or implement scalable innovative interventions or service delivery along SCRC’s Suicide Care Pathway for adolescents and young adults (ages 13-30) in outpatient medical settings. Applicants are welcome from along the career spectrum of graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, early career suicide care researchers, and established researchers new to suicide care research.
