Career Opportunities

We are in an exciting period of growth as we expand our efforts to improve the health of the public. We care about the well-being of our employees, strive to offer a culture and environment that attracts and retains the very best and constantly look for ways to improve. We offer:

We want to minimize employee’s work-related stress and help them accomplish their life goals while working a full- or part-time job. We offer flexible work schedules, including telecommuting options for many positions.

We encourage transparent communication at all levels of the department and routinely ask for employee feedback. Many supervisors have an “open door” policy that promotes direct access to timely information and support.

We give annual awards that honor and celebrate the valuable contributions staff and faculty make toward supporting the mission of our department and spotlight faculty and staff accomplishments in our internal and external newsletters. We also recognize and support news ideas and endeavors through small grant programs and scholarships.

From a Welcome Lunch to an annual Department Picnic, we support a welcoming culture that helps all our employees feel included. Our Department Climate Task Force is working on ways to foster a positive working environment for our trainees, faculty, and staff, and our Diversity Committee is looking at ways to improve opportunities for individuals from underrepresented minorities in medicine including Hispanic/Latinos, African Americans, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders. Our employees are part of an important team and we want them to feel that way.

We encourage our employees to develop their skills and careers. Many employees take advantage of Professional & Organizational Development (POD) classes offered by the UW as well as the Tuition Exemption Program that covers 6 credits/term for eligible staff and faculty. Our research labs are extremely committed to helping employees prepare for graduate school and/or build their resume, we have a robust faculty mentorship program, and we provide Staff Scholarship Awards twice a year to help pay for the cost of classes, conferences, meetings, and workshops.

There are many ways for employees to be involved in the work and social environment of the department. Employees can serve on workgroups that tackle specific issues, participate on committees that vote on scholarships and awards, and help plan fun events like holiday parties, running or cycling clubs, potlucks and the annual department picnic. Employees also have the opportunity to serve on department, UW Medicine and UW committees relevant to their job.

Our mission is to improve the health of the public through excellent clinical care, education and research. We envision a future where mental health is an important part of overall health, and mental health care is an integral part of all health care.

Our core values of diversity, collaboration, continuous learning and mentorship, and integrity and accountability represent what we believe in and how we approach everything we do.
