Congratulations to the SPIRIT Lab on becoming our department’s newest Clinical and Research Center! The mission of the newly branded SPIRIT Center, co-directed by Sarah Kopelovich, PhD, and Maria Monroe-DeVita, PhD, is to illuminate a pathway to recovery for those who support individuals experiencing psychosis.

Alex Whitebirch, PhD, received a Washington Research Foundation (WRF) Postdoctoral Fellowship to investigate the role of prefrontal cortex neurons in fentanyl addiction and relapse using fiber photometry and chemogenetic approaches. Dr. Whitebirch completed a doctorate in neurobiology and behavior at Columbia University and is currently working with Susan Ferguson, PhD. Learn more

Ann Streissguth made a name for herself in the 1970s after publishing an article in the distinguished British medical journal The Lancet describing what became known as fetal alcohol syndrome. Dr. Streissguth died August 2 at the age of 90.
