Residency program announces new associate program directors

Department News | April 30, 2025

After a competitive internal search, four new associate program directors (APDs) will be joining the team in July 2025. Thank you to our dedicated selection committee: Jonathan Buchholz, MD, Rob Chen, MD, PHD, Heidi Combs, MD, MS, Allison Rooney, MD, Tom Soeprono, MD, and Athena Wong, MHA. The exceptional quality of the applicants made their task very challenging. Let’s meet the new ADPs:

R1/Wellness/EDI — James Lee, MD
R2/QIPS — Suzanne Murray, MD
R3/Psychotherapy — Laurel Pellegrino, MD
R4/Career-Track Development — Miles Christensen, MD

This restructuring transforms our residency program from a site-based model to a centralized model where APDs will be responsible for a specific cohort of residents (e.g., PGY-1s). This way residents will know who their designated APD is regardless of rotation site. Each APD will also have unique areas of focus such as wellness and EDI, quality improvement and patient safety (QIPS), psychotherapy, and career and track development. The latter will also focus on resident-to-faculty retention efforts and “sub-specialization” opportunities during the residency.

We’re thrilled to introduce our new leadership team and eager to work together to ensure a smooth transition. Welcome!
