The Psychiatry Residency Program hosted a successful Resident Research Day on May 25 with a record turnout of in-person and virtual attendees. John Neumeier, MD, PhD, director of our Psychiatry Resident Research Program, and education team members Marie Carmelo, Michele Roe and Liz Tyson organized the event which celebrated the impressive research, scholarship and Quality Improvement (QI) projects our residents have worked on throughout the year.
Residents gave lightning talks and presentations on work representing a range of topics from basic science to teaching methodologies. Yanni Chang, MD, MPH, and Joellyn Sheehy, MD, received awards for their thought-provoking presentations on the association between alcohol use and suicidality in primary care and suicide in corrections and the role of the attorney, respectively. Jesse Fann, MD, MPH, talked about new research opportunities related to the new Clinician Scientist Training Program, and keynote speaker Amelia Gallitano, MD, PhD, Co-Director of the MD/PhD Program at University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix, talked about how clinical training enabled her to translate basic science findings into human studies. It was a fantastic and inspiring event and we look forward to the new and exciting research and scholarship our residents will bring to this event next year!
