Strong department showing at ACLP Annual Meeting

Department news | November 30, 2019

Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, a subspecialty of psychiatry focused on treating behavioral conditions in patients with medical and surgical problems, is one of our department’s strengths as indicated by the large contingent of faculty and trainees who convened in San Diego earlier this month for the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP) annual meeting. Jesse Fann, MD, MHP, served as Program Vice Chair for the ACLP 2019 Annual Meeting and will be Program Chair for the ACLP 2020 Annual Meeting to be held in Phoenix, AZ. New to a leadership position with the Academy is Amy Bauer, MDMS, selected to the ACLP’s Board of Directors for a three-year term because of her “exceptional combination of clinical, research, and leadership skills, her commitment to service in the ACLP, and overall clear thinking.” Presentations by faculty members ranged from “Hormone Havoc: What a C-L Psychiatrist Should Know about Female Reproductive Hormones” by Amritha Bhat, MD, MPH, to “Future Models of C-L Psychiatry in the Community: One Size Does Not Fit All” by Julia Ruark, MD, MPH, to name just a few. Lastly, Christian Umfrid, MD, a current Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry fellow, received the William Webb Fellowship Award designed to foster the career development and leadership potential of advanced psychiatry residents, and will be mentored by Dr. Fann over the coming year.
