Congratulations to acting assistant professors Thomas Soeprono, MD, and Ramanpreet Toor, MD, for being accepted into the UW Teaching Scholars Program (TSP) for academic year 2018-19. The TSP is a one-year professional development program for educators in the health professions who have a passion for teaching and a desire to become academic leaders. The program provides an opportunity for faculty members to enhance their teaching skills, learn educational theory, talk with education leaders from throughout the UW, collaborate with colleagues on challenging projects, explore their leadership potential, and reflect on their future career direction. We are thrilled to be able to support the ongoing professional and educational development of our junior faculty.
Leadership and education are at the core of Dr. Soeprono’s academic interests. He is the Associate Program Director for the psychiatry residency at the University of Washington Medical Center, which keeps him actively involved in resident education and policy-making to ensure the well-rounded training of psychiatry residents. Additionally, he is the coordinator of the first year resident didactics, and is continually revamping and updating the curriculum in response to changing needs. He also serves as the module leader for the consult-liaison psychiatry series for the second year psychiatry residents.
Dr. Toor recently became the Associate Director of the Integrated Care Training Program with a focus on managing the didactics, collaborative care rotation, and the basic collaborative care curriculum. Dr. Toor also works as a psychiatric consultant at the University of Washington Medical Center and for Capital Medical Center in Olympia via telepsychiatry, and in three primary care clinics where she practices the Collaborative Care model. Her interests include women’s health, mood disorders, and learning more about Collaborative Care.
