The School Mental Health Assessment, Research and Training (SMART) Center received funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) for a new, two year Postdoctoral Research Training Program in School Mental Health. The focus of the new fellowship is to prepare education researchers to conduct relevant, high-quality research focused on the social and behavioral contexts for academic learning and the use of mental health strategies in educational practice to improve student outcomes. Each fellow will be paired with a senior mentor who will work closely with him or her on existing funded projects that include development, evaluation, and measurement projects. The fellows will also develop communication and other skills necessary to excel in the field of education research. Eric Bruns, PhD, serves as PI of this new training program along with co-PIs Aaron Lyon, PhD, Michael Pullman, PhD, Elizabeth McCauley, PhD, and Carol Davis, EdD (UW College of Education).
