Residents once again have the opportunity to pursue global mental health research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Ian Bennett, MD, PhD, who has projects in Vietnam, Nigeria, and the Phillipines, has agreed to be the faculty advisor with help from Leah Nguyen, MSW, BFA who has been managing the program on an interim basis. Additionally, the department has several faculty with active research projects in global health including Lydia Chwastiak, MD, MPH who co-directs a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating center in mental health and has worked on projects in India, Africa, and Europe. Amritha Bhat, MD, MPH has active work in India. Dror Ben-Zeev, PhD and the BRiTE Center have projects in Ghana. John Fortney, PhD has a new grant in Nigeria, and Richard Veith, MD, the departments former chair, has done work in Vietnam and Cambodia and continues some of these activities. This continues to be an amazing opportunity for our residents!
