Starting on July 1, 2025, Ryan Kimmel, MD will assume the role of vice chair for clinical services in our department. Dr. Kimmel brings a wealth of experience in clinical care, leadership, and innovation to this role, and we are confident in his ability to continue advancing our department’s commitment to excellence in clinical services and patient care. Dr. Kimmel is an experienced clinician teacher who completed medical training at UW School of Medicine, residency training at UC San Diego, and worked in private practice at Swedish Edmonds before joining us as a faculty member. Dr. Kimmel currently serves as chief of psychiatry at UW Medical Center and as medical director for our state-wide Psychiatric Consultation Line (PCL), and he will continue to serve in these leadership roles. In his new role as vice chair for clinical services, he will work closely with the department chair and vice chair for finance and administration to provide leadership and strategic oversight for our adult clinical programs. He will also work with medical directors and service chiefs of our adult clinical programs on clinical program development and management, budget and resource management, quality improvement and compliance activities, and coordination of care with other UW Medicine entities and community partners. He will also work closely with our vice chair for faculty development and our site service chiefs on faculty development and mentorship for clinically active faculty and collaboration with academic and research teams in the department.
