Neurosciences Division updates

Department news | January 31, 2018

New laboratories and a Division Administrator are coming to the Division of Psychiatric Neurosciences. The Division Administrator, Antronette Simmons, started earlier this month. She has been with the UW School of Medicine for 11 years, including prior positions with General Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, and Pathology. She was most recently Division Administrator for the Psychiatry Department’s Division of Public Behavioral Health and Justice Policy.

The Division, led by John Neumaier, MD, PhD, seeks to understand a wide range of behavioral health disorders. These include addictions, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, traumatic brain injury, stress, and autism. Neuroscientists study the fundamental biological processes underlying these conditions and the effect of new treatments on brain function. This research takes place at UW Medical Center on the main UW campus, at Harborview Medical Center, the Veterans’ Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Children’s Research Institute. Many of our neuroscientists collaborate closely with faculty in the Pharmacology Department. Within the next year or so, most of the Neuroscience labs located at UW Medical Center will move to new shared space with Pharmacology colleagues in the Health Sciences building. This move will give them access to more modern lab facilities and will increase contact with their Pharmacology colleagues.
