In fall 2025, we debuted a fun new education series called InsidePsyc. This bimonthly series dives into academic medicine and psychiatry while shining a spotlight on the importance of administrative roles. The series is open to everyone, but presentations are designed with an eye toward staff.

The series kicked off with a presentation by Jed Thompson who illustrated the history of academic medicine and gave an overview of academic medicine at UW. In December, Becky Sladek, MS gave our second presentation, Psychiatry 101. This session provided a brief history of psychiatry, the history of our department, and a look to the future of psychiatry. 

Our third installment of InsidePsyc is scheduled for February 11, 2026. Alison Laing, the department’s associate director of research operations, will provide detailed information about research administration and share stories from her experience working in research at UW. This presentation can be enjoyed on Zoom or in-person on the 16th floor of the BB Tower.
