Maria Monroe-DeVita, PhD, participated as a guest panelist in an event last month to raise awareness about early psychosis and to fundraise in the name of Zia Larson, a young man who died by suicide after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. Larson’s Ray of Light Foundation, created by Zia’s mother, held its first run/walk on September 13—Larson’s birthday—at Magnuson Park followed by a short program at the Northwest African American Museum. Some of the funds raised will go toward creating the Early Psychosis Intervention Program being developed at Harborview Medical Center. You can read more about Zia Larson and the Early Psychosis Intervention Program in He Sought Care for Schizophrenia. He Still Fell Through the Cracks.
