Ben Danielson, MD, has been appointed the holder of the Barton Distinguished Endowed Chair for Youth Justice and Health Equity by the UW Board of Regents. The endowed chair is made possible by a generous gift from UW Medicine donors Sarah and Rich Barton.
Dr. Danielson directs the Allies in Healthier Systems for Health & Abundance in Youth (AHSHAY) Center, co-housed in our department and the Tubman Center for Health & Freedom, that seeks to catalyze efforts to create a world without harmful youth incarceration. AHSHAY promotes upstream solutions, including new programs and policy changes, that are centered on the health and well-being of children and youth while considering the overall well-being of families and communities. Endowed Chairs and Professorships help us attract and retain top faculty to our department and give them the resources they need to advance the way we understand, prevent, diagnose and treat mental illness and substance use. We are very grateful and appreciative for all of the named Chairs and Professorships in our Department that support our research, education and clinical activities.
