Department News | September 30, 2025

We’re proud to announce that Amritha Bhat, MBBS, MD, MPH and Eileen Twohy, PhD have both completed the UW School of Medicine Rising Leaders Program. This year‑long leadership development initiative is designed for early‑to‑mid‑career faculty who are new to leadership or aspiring to leadership roles. It offers monthly four‑hour workshops from September through June, covering topics like adaptive leadership, strategic planning, effective communication, conflict management, coaching and mentoring, and financial literacy. The program provides practical leadership skills while promoting networking and community across diverse departments within the School of Medicine.

Dr. Bhat and Dr. Twohy are among the 35 rising leaders in the 2024‑2025 cohort. Dr. Bhat, co-director of the PERC Center, brings strengths in perinatal psychiatry, global mental health, and population health interventions. “Participating in the Rising Leaders program was a valuable experience,” she said. “I connected with colleagues across UW Medicine and I really appreciated the opportunity to grow professionally while building a strong network of peers.”

Dr. Twohy, who is part of our Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, contributes suicide-focused clinical work with a focus on caregiver involvement in suicide prevention and equitable behavioral health access for youth and families. It was eye-opening and inspiring to interact with colleagues from across the School of Medicine in a variety of leadership roles, and so helpful to hear directly from our SoM leaders,” she said. “I would recommend the program to others who are looking to increase leadership skills while having fun and making valuable connections.” Congratulations to both!
