Ambitious ‘Same Day Access’ goal takes flight

Department news | December 31, 2018

In our continued effort to improve access to mental health care for those in need, a new one-year pilot program offered through the UW Medicine Accountable Care Network will provide ‘same day access’ to mental health care for Boeing employees and their family members. Set to launch January 2, 2019, UW Medicine Mental Health CareConnect will offer free consultation via phone for non-crisis, mental health conditions and concerns for all Boeing Preferred Partnership employees and their families. The program is a collaboration between department faculty based at UW, VA Puget Sound and Seattle Children’s. Patient Navigator Stephanie Wood will connect employees via phone to one of our adult or child psychiatrists or psychologists within one business day – often the same day — and will also assist in finding community mental health resources based on the employee’s needs. This is a tremendous opportunity to see if we can provide same day access to care similar to what other UW Medicine service lines provide, and we will build upon what we learn from Mental Health CareConnect as we continue to work with other large area employers on similar partnerships. Thank you to Ryan Kimmel, MD, Bob Hilt, MDAna Clark (Seattle Children’s PAL Program) Cara Towle, RN, MSN, and Ali Iqbal, MBA for spearheading this ambitious program.
