In accordance with Title VI, the University of Washington is committed to providing ways for all community members to report discrimination and harassment based on race, color, or national origin. This includes reports of discrimination or harassment based on actual or perceived shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics, such as students of Jewish, Palestinian, Muslim, Arab and South Asian descent or citizenship or residency in a country with a dominant religion or distinct religious identity, or their association with this national origin or ancestry.

Retaliation protection:
University of Washington policy prohibits retaliation against people who bring a complaint or participate in the complaint process. An employee who engages in retaliatory conduct is subject to appropriate corrective action, including dismissal.
Exception to confidentiality:
Any information shared in emails, tools, or reports may be subject to public records requests or released under federal and state law.
Process
What information you need to submit, what happens after
Those with questions, concerns, or reports relating to shared ancestry, such as antisemitism and Islamophobia, should send an email to CivilRights@uw.edu with information about the concerns, including a brief explanation of the concern and any details.
If you would prefer to remain anonymous or would like to report other types of concerns that may fall under Title VI, reports can be made through one of the following bias incident response processes:

When a report is submitted, University personnel will take the following steps:
- Review the details of the situation and assess for immediate safety concerns.
- Identify what options may be available or necessary to respond to a report.
- Contact the person who reported or was impacted (if disclosed) to provide information on resolution options, supportive measures, and additional available resources.
- Assess whether a hostile environment may have been created for the individual who reported or for others and, if so, assess necessary actions.
In response to a report, examples of actions University personnel may take include:
- Providing safety and support resources to those who report and/or may have been impacted by the conduct.
- Removing displays of the offensive speech (e.g., graffiti or posters).
- More closely monitoring the places or context where the conduct has occurred or been reported to be occurring.
- Referring the matter to an investigation office, which may result in a formal investigation and disciplinary action, if warranted.
- Taking steps to prevent retaliation against those who reported or others, including informing those involved in an investigation about University policies prohibiting retaliation.

Student Conduct Offices:
The student conduct office for the campus where the student is enrolled conducts investigations of complaints about students, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. If you are uncertain of a student’s campus affiliation, you may contact any office.
