Elizabeth McCauley, PhD, ABPP, who has been serving as the Training Director of the University of Washington’s Psychology Internship Program since 2013, will be officially stepping down on June 30, 2018. We are pleased to announce that Ty Lostutter, PhD, Assistant Professor, will be the incoming Training Director and Charles Bombardier, PhD, ABPP, Professor from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, will be the new Associate Director of the program, beginning July 1, 2018.
The Psychology Internship program was founded in 1961 with the goal of providing excellent clinical, didactic, and research training firmly rooted in the scientist-practitioner tradition. The program has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 1965 and has built a strong national reputation as a leading medical school-based internship, providing training in general adult psychology, general child psychology, and behavioral medicine/health psychology and neuropsychology.
Dr. McCauley will continue to be involved with the internship program in an advisory capacity. She will also continue providing supervision to Psychology Residents at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where she is currently serving as the Interim Director of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Dr. McCauley has provided excellent leadership and management of the Psychology Internship Program during these past five years and her efforts are deeply appreciated.
Dr. Lostutter has been involved with the Psychology Internship Program since he first joined the department as Program Coordinator in 2002. He spent three years as staff prior to pursuing his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Lostutter completed his degree in 2009 from the University of Washington’s Department of Psychology and returned to Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Health and Risk Behaviors. He joined the faculty in 2011 as Acting Instructor and quickly advanced to the rank of Assistant Professor in 2012. Dr. Lostutter has been Assistant Director of the Internship Program since 2013. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the Psychology Internship Program’s Diversity Advancement Committee (DAC) with Dr. Tiara Dillworth, PhD, Research Scientist in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Dr. Bombardier also has a long history with the program. He most recently served as coordinator of the Behavioral Medicine/Neuropsychology Track from, 2013 – 2018. He has been an outstanding supervisor with the program since 1997. Dr. Bombardier received his PhD from Washington State University in 1987. The program supports 14 Psychology Residents who provide direct clinical services in one of three emphasis tracks: Adult, Behavioral Medicine/Neuropsychology, and Child. Each of these tracks has an amazing Track Coordinator: Michele Bedard-Gilligan, PhD (Adult Track), Jeffrey Sherman, PhD and Ivan Molton, PhD (Behavioral Medicine/Neuropsychology Track), and Jesse Bledsoe, PhD (Child Track).
Starting July 1, 2018, the Psychology Internship Program will have 14 new Psychology Residents; the Program Coordinator, Sally Burgdorff; and new administrative leadership. Dr. Lostutter would like to extend his sincere gratitude for the years of support from Drs. Unützer and Cowley, his fellow Psychiatry/Rehabilitation Medicine faculty, his own faculty mentor Mary Larimer, PhD, the numerous clinical and research supervisors/mentors from the internship program, the current and former Psychology/Psychiatry Residents, the department Administrative team, and all the amazing staff who have helped him achieve his dream of becoming the Training Director of the Psychology Internship Program. He is also delighted to welcome Dr. Bombardier as the newest member of the leadership team.
