Types of Complaints / Topics Addressed
UW Medicine Compliance receives and responds to inquiries and complaints related to healthcare compliance regulations and UW Medicine Compliance Policies. This includes complaints and issues related to patient privacy, conflicts of interest, EMTALA violations, fraud, waste and abuse, and hospital and professional billing compliance. Compliance also investigates complaints of retaliation for reporting a compliance concern in good faith.

University of Washington policy prohibits retaliation against people who bring a complaint or participate in the complaint process. An employee who engages in retaliatory conduct is subject to appropriate corrective action, including dismissal.

Any information shared in emails, tools, or reports may be subject to public records requests or released under federal and state law.
Process
What information you need to submit, what happens after
Suspected noncompliance may be reported to supervisors, a designated entity representative, or the UW Medicine Compliance department via email to comply@uw.edu, phone at 206.543.3098, or to the UW Medicine Compliance Hotline (local: 206.616.5248, toll-free: 866.964.7744). Inquiries and complaints submitted to UW Medicine Compliance are triaged to compliance specialists depending on the type of concern expressed. Compliance specialists will contact the reporter in a timely manner. See compliance policy for specific details on the investigation process.
When does reporter hear back?
Varies based on priority level. Investigations are initiated within 10 business days of notification.

Anyone who becomes aware of an actual or potential violation of the law or of UW Medicine compliance policies has a duty to report it. UW Medicine prohibits retaliation against workforce members or other individuals for filing a complaint, expressing a concern or asking for advice.
