Internal P2IR grants to support early career faculty

The PBSCI Research Council is currently soliciting Pipeline to Independent Research (P2IR) proposals for early career faculty investigators who want to pursue a research career in the department. Review the full announcement here.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Primary full-time faculty appointment in PBSCI as acting instructor, acting assistant, acting research assistant, assistant, research assistant professor or pending faculty appointment in those categories.
  • Ability to commit a minimum of 50% FTE for two years to research / research training.
  • Demonstrated commitment to submitting research grants: at least one NIH K or R award submission (or equivalent from another funder). Inclusion of your summary statement and application from K or R submission is not required, but may favorably impact your review.
  • Submission is aligned with the mission and resources of the department.

Support:

  • Up to 50% FTE for two years
  • Research funds: Up to $15k per year for allowable expenses such as supplies, conference travel, publications, staff support (such as research coordinators or graduate students).
  • Applying for additional funding to support research costs is allowable.

Submissions are due March 3, 2026 with awards announced in late April and a start date of July 1. A second round of submissions will be due in September with a start date in January 2027. Contact Alison Laing at alaing2@uw.edu with questions or to request more information.
