Lupita Santillan

Lupita Santillan, PhD, is an Acting Assistant Professor in the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Santillan is an attending psychologist for the Early Childhood Clinic and the CALMA Clinic at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She is passionate about increasing access to evidence-based early childhood interventions and the provision of mental and behavioral health in Spanish. Her clinical training has focused on providing care to families and children with developmental delays and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Dr. Santillan’s research focuses on the development, implementation, and efficacy of evidence-based behavioral treatments to support children with developmental delays and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Caitlin Courshon

Caitlin Courshon, PhD (she/her), is an attending psychologist for the Behavior and Attention Management (BAM) Program within Outpatient Psychiatry at Seattle Children’s Hospital and an Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. Dr. Courshon has clinical expertise in the treatment, consultation, and assessment of children with disruptive behaviors and their families, including, but not limited to, neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder, and disruptive behavior disorders. Her clinical work integrates evidence-based treatments, including parent behavior management training (PBMT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Dr. Courshon’s current academic interests focus on researching clinical outcomes of PBMT programs and contributing to ongoing program development to expand services for caregivers navigating challenges related to home-school communication and disruptive behaviors in school settings. She is deeply committed to helping children improve their behaviors, empowering caregivers and educators to enhance their self-efficacy in supporting children with disruptive behaviors, and fostering healthy, safe, and inclusive environments across home, school, and community settings.

Alissa Hemke

I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist with interests in medical education, infant and early childhood mental health, and psychotherapy. I direct psychotherapy training for child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP) fellows, co-lead the CAP fellows’ didactic curriculum, and coordinate the CAP training experiences of general psychiatry residents.

My clinical work includes treatment in the outpatient setting for young children through adolescents, working closely with their families. I am passionate about psychiatrists supporting families comprehensively. I seek to use not only medications (if appropriate) but also behavioral/psychotherapeutic approaches.

I have done research on expanding behavioral treatments for young children by involving peer supports—caregivers who have previously participated in the programs for their own children—as members of the care team.

Cindy Ola Trevino

Dr. Trevino is a bilingual, bicultural clinical child psychologist and she is interested in providing evidence-based, culturally responsive and collaborative care for patients and families.

Dr. Trevino collaborates as a researcher and clinician on interventions studies with children with ADHD and craniofacial or genetic differences.

Her research focuses on the use of innovative strategies to assess and promote early childhood mental health and development. This includes task-shifting studies to increase access to evidence-based treatments for Spanish-speaking families and the development of remote assessment tools to measure parenting behaviors that promote cognitive growth in young children.

Megan Goldenshteyn

Dr. Megan Goldenshteyn works as a licensed psychologist at the Institute on Human Development and Disability (IHDD) in the Child Development Clinic, Cardiac Neurodevelopment Clinic, Down Syndrome Specialty Clinic, and the Infant Development Follow-up Clinic.  Dr. Goldenshteyn conducts psychological and developmental evaluations and supervises the psychology trainees, including the postdoctoral fellow and residents.

Heather Carmichael Olson

Personal Statement

I am a psychologist who carries out research, provides community education to a broad range of audiences, trains postgraduate students, works on public policy– and has served as a clinician with children and families for many years. My main interests are fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), early childhood mental health, and interventions for children born prenatally exposed to alcohol and other drugs and their families. My research is currently based at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute, but I also work in collaboration with UW researchers– and scientists at the University of Rochester in New York and multiple other academic institutions. A main research focus has been the Families Moving Forward (FMF) Program, a family-focused FASD intervention, now being disseminated primarily in the USA and Canada.  The FMF Program is also now being translated into a mobile health application, called FMF Connect, for even broader use. Through Seattle Children’s, I co-direct a pilot service focused on assessment and short-term consultation for youth with prenatal substance exposure (including alcohol), and their families. I also offer mental health services to a broad range of young children and develops research focused on early childhood mental health. Over the years, beyond research and clinical work, I have been able to work toward change in national US public policy, collaborate with Indigenous communities and researchers in remote Northwestern Australia, and train dedicated young professionals in psychology and psychiatry. I am grateful for these remarkable career opportunities… and the chance to meet so many resilient and inspiring families.
